Axel Markens presents meditative micro-worlds in square format. His delicate works, reminiscent of mandalas, are created using colored pencils, ink, or processed maple leaves. Collages featuring black-and-white photographs and stamps expand his repertoire. The images follow a spontaneous process in which hundreds of individual shapes—squares, circles, ovals—come together in harmonious dynamism.
