Nina FIVA Sonnenberg reads from her debut novel The Heart, a Wolf and talks about the creation of the story—from the first ideas to its publication. She is accompanied by pianist Clemens Wenger, who provides the book’s soundtrack with fitting songs and classics from FIVA’s repertoire. For the first time on this reading tour, the two artists will perform as a duo.
The novel depicts suburban youth in the 1990s, shaped by family influences, rituals, and the tension between life and death. At its center is Nele Kastner, who waits at her father’s deathbed while recounting their shared history: growing up in a lower-middle-class environment, psychological fasting, crumb neuroses, and the small moments that shape a person. With unflinching honesty, tenderness, and plenty of humor, Sonnenberg revisits a childhood filled with cigarette smoke and Knorr soups—a tribute to the children of the 1980s and 1990s.
