Experience Dvořák’s famous 9th Symphony with the Estonian National Orchestra. An evening filled with Slavic melodies, American influences, and romantic cello sounds by Elgar.
Description
The Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Olari Elts, presents a diverse program featuring works by Erkki-Sven Tüür, Edward Elgar, and Antonín Dvořák. The evening begins with Tüür’s "Incantation of Tempest," a dramatic piece by the Estonian composer, who is also active as a rock musician and flutist.
István Várdai, one of the most outstanding cellists of our time, performs Elgar’s Cello Concerto in E minor. His instrument, a Stradivarius, was once played by Jacqueline du Pré and lends the romantic work a special depth of sound.
The highlight is Dvořák’s 9th Symphony "From the New World," composed during his stay in the USA. The piece blends Bohemian dance rhythms with influences from North American music, including spirituals and melodies of Indigenous peoples. A fascinating connection that continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
