Description
This festive themed tour takes you through the opulent rooms of the Salzburg Residence and the DomQuartier – the central places where Wolfgang Amadé Mozart worked. As court composer to the Prince-Archbishops, Mozart composed music here for Salzburg Cathedral, whose organ loft is part of the tour. The tour sheds light on Mozart’s life at court, his role as a church musician, and the musical traditions of the Christmas season in the 18th century.
The focus is on Mozart’s set of variations "Ah vous dirai-je, Maman" (today known as "Morgen kommt der Weihnachtsmann") and other festive pieces from the Salzburg region. The tour can be combined with a chamber concert featuring members of the Residenz Ensemble performing Mozart’s works and traditional holiday music. Following the tour, visitors are treated to a small surprise from the Salzburg Christmas Market.
