Description

The Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, conducted by Constantinos Carydis, presents a Sunday matinee featuring musical contrasts. Soloist Martin James Bartlett performs on piano, interpreting Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73 – a work of heroic brilliance and virtuosic elegance. Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 9 in E-flat major, Op. 70 completes the program with its ironically light façade, concealing deeper ambiguities.

Framing these classics is Minas Borboudakis’ Katharsis for Orchestra, a composition distinguished by abstract sound architectures and rhythmic complexity. The juxtaposition of Beethoven’s pathos, Shostakovich’s layered complexity, and Borboudakis’ modern expressivity promises a concert rich in tension and diversity.
