Atmospheric chamber music in the pre-Christmas season: Mozart's variations and Christmas sounds from the Salzburg region. With fortepiano and tenor.
Description
During the pre-Christmas season, a special concert in the opulent halls of the Salzburg Residence invites you on a musical journey through Mozart's works and Christmas traditions. The focus is on Mozart's variations "Ah vous dirai-je, Maman" – the melody now known as "Morgen kommt der Weihnachtsmann" (Tomorrow Comes Santa Claus). With playful virtuosity, Mozart transforms the simple French folk song into artistic variations.
The program includes Mozart's "An die Freude KV 53", "Abendempfindung KV 523", the famous Piano Sonata No. 11 with the "Alla Turca", and the aria "Dies Bildnis ist bezaubernd schön" from "The Magic Flute". The concert is rounded off with traditional Christmas carols such as "Still, still, still" and "Es wird scho glei dumper". The pieces are performed by the Residence Ensemble with Bernhard Teufl (tenor) and Minka Popovich on the fortepiano, a replica of Michael Haydn's instrument from 1803 – a keyboard instrument that can be played softly and loudly with its felt-covered hammers.
