An exciting talk on societal expectations, (non-)motherhood, and new perspectives on care. With experts and activists – free entry!
Description
In the talk "MOTHERS AND OTHERS?", author and activist Sarah Diehl, queer feminist and educator Carolina Tamayo Rojas, and family researcher Eva-Maria Schmidt discuss societal expectations of motherhood and the freedom to consciously choose against it. The guests explore how role models and norms shape our ideas—and why the desire for children or its absence often clashes with external expectations.
A key focus is the concept of "Mothering," which redefines care and responsibility beyond biological parenthood. This raises the question of how motherhood can be conceived outside traditional family structures. The discussion, moderated by Martina Fladerer, takes place alongside the production "MAKING HERSTORY" and connects scientific perspectives with activist and literary approaches. Sarah Diehl has been advocating for self-determination rights for years, Carolina Tamayo Rojas links parenthood with anti-racist activism, and Eva-Maria Schmidt researches gender roles and social norms.
