A brave film about Franca Viola, who in 1960s Sicily stands up against oppression and violence. Italian drama with German subtitles – free admission!
Description
In 1960s Sicily, young Lia resists the patriarchal constraints of her time. When she rejects the son of a mafia boss, she is raped—but instead of bowing to traditional expectations and marrying her attacker, she reports him to the authorities. The film is based on the true story of Franca Viola, who in 1965 became the first woman in Italy to report a rape, breaking a legal and societal taboo.
Director Marta Savina explores in her debut film the mechanisms of structural violence and the courageous fight for self-determination. Starring Manuela Ventura in the lead role, alongside Claudia Gusmano, Fabrizio Ferracane, and Francesco Colella, the film recounts a historic turning point in the struggle against oppression. Italy, 2022, 102 minutes, original version with German subtitles.
