In the magnificent marble hall of Schloss Mirabell, one of Salzburg’s historically most significant concert venues, where once the Mozart family performed for the Salzburg archbishops, the ensemble 1756 presents a concert featuring works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Carl Maria von Weber. The ensemble, whose members trained at the Mozarteum Salzburg and now perform in renowned orchestras, plays in the instrumentation best suited for the program, blending chamber-music refinement with vibrant ensemble culture.
The program spans various creative phases of Mozart: from the youthful Salzburg Divertimento in D major K. 136, through the exhilarating overture to Le Nozze di Figaro K. 492, to the Clarinet Concerto in A major K. 622. The latter, a highlight of the clarinet repertoire, captivates with lyrical depth, virtuosic brilliance, and an almost poetic warmth. The evening is rounded off by Weber’s Quintet for Clarinet and Strings in B-flat major Op. 34, performed by solo clarinetist Marius Birtea. A concert that brings the elegance and expressive power of the Viennese Classical style to life in the historic halls of the castle.
