Description

The award-winning musical "The Sound of Music" by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II returns in a new production by the Salzburg State Theatre to its historic setting. The story follows Maria, who becomes a governess in the family of the widowed Captain von Trapp and there discovers not only a love for music but also for the captain himself. However, Austria's annexation by Nazi Germany forces the family to make a dramatic decision.

With timeless melodies like "Do-Re-Mi" and "Edelweiss," the play tells a touching family saga about unity and courage in difficult times. The production by Andreas Gergen and the musical direction by Wolfgang Götz and Tobias Meichsner emphasize a fresh, unclichéd interpretation that highlights the political background of the story. Suitable for visitors aged 10 and up, the musical combines emotional depth with a critical examination—while remaining a captivating musical experience.
