Mozart's charming opera as a puppet theatre: A historical production with Baroque music, German dialogue, and the original Italian language. A unique experience for young and old!
Description
Mozart’s dramma giocoso "The Pretend Gardener" (La finta giardiniera) is performed in a shortened version with new dialogues in German by the Salzburg Marionette Theatre. The production is based on the historical staging from the Mozart Week 1976, designed by set designer Günther Schneider-Siemssen. Musical direction is led by René Jacobs with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, using the 2012 recording featuring soloists such as Sophie Karthäuser and Jeremy Ovenden.
The plot follows the noblewoman Violante, who disguises herself as a gardener to be close to her lover. Confusions and emotional conflicts shape the piece, which combines comedic and dramatic elements. The dialogues are recited by students from the Mozarteum, while marionettes embody the characters. The performance is presented in German and Italian with German and English surtitles.
A production by the Salzburg Marionette Theatre in cooperation with the International Mozarteum Foundation and the University Mozarteum Salzburg.
