Description

An extraordinary evening unites Richard Strauss’ An Alpine Symphony with the gripping narratives of extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner. The epic tone poem, which musically captures the grandeur, beauty, and unpredictable power of the mountains, is complemented by Messner’s personal accounts, photographs, and expedition stories. The dialogue between music and speech creates a compelling portrait of the alpine world—between fascination and challenge.

As a atmospheric prelude, Edward Elgar’s choral song cycle From the Bavarian Highlands resounds, a homage to Bavarian-Alpine folk music that the British composer created after a stay in Garmisch. Under the direction of conductor Elisabeth Fuchs, the Würth Philharmoniker perform alongside the Salzburg Philharmonic Choir. The concert lasts approximately 120 minutes without intermission and promises an intense listening experience that combines late Romantic orchestral music with adventure storytelling into a unique overall experience.
