Description

The Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, conducted by Trevor Pinnock, presents Mozart’s unfinished masterpiece, the Requiem in D minor K. 626, in the version completed by Franz Xaver Süßmayr. Accompanied by the Bachchor Salzburg and soloists Lauryna Bendžiūnaitė (soprano), Catriona Morison (mezzo-soprano), Maximilian Schmitt (tenor), and Tareq Nazmi (bass), a moving interpretation of this enigmatic work emerges, one that continues to captivate audiences with its mysterious origins and emotional depth.

Preceding the Requiem is Jean Sibelius’s "Scene with Cranes" op. 44/2. Originally composed as incidental music for the drama "Kuolema," Sibelius’s dark and symbolic music blends the piece’s melancholic mood with the restrained opening bars of Mozart’s Requiem. The final notes of the scene seem to dissolve like the protagonist’s soul into the afterlife, creating an atmospheric bridge to the Requiem that follows.
