Description

The Italian cantata "Davide penitente" K. 569 by W. A. Mozart is the focal point of this concert. The work, composed in 1785 to a text by Saverio Mattei, addresses the repentance of the biblical King David, as recorded in the penitential psalms. Mozart drew on parts of his Missa in C minor K. 427 for the composition—a prime example of the parody technique already used by Bach and Handel.

The performance features soloists from the Mozarteum University, the Mozarteum uniChor, the Mozarteum vocalEnsemble, and the Alpenbaroque Orchestra, conducted by Jörn Andresen. The program is complemented by Mozart’s "Misericordias Domini" K. 222, another work with a sacred character.
