Description

This concert is dedicated to the poetic sound world of Gabriel Fauré, whose music is characterized by gentle elegance and emotional depth. The Salzburg Philharmonic, conducted by Elisabeth Fuchs, presents a selection of his most significant works: the Pavane op. 50 with its floating charm, the melancholic Élegie op. 24 for cello, performed by Nejc Rupnik, and the orchestral suite Pelléas et Mélisande op. 80, inspired by Maurice Maeterlinck’s play.

The highlight is Fauré’s Requiem op. 48, distinguished by its restrained, comforting atmosphere—far from dramatic theatricality, instead marked by an almost weightless spirituality. With soprano Judith Spießer and baritone Wilfried Zelinka, along with the Salzburg Philharmonic Choir, the evening unfolds in refined sonority and inner tranquility.
