Description

The fourth season concert of the CAMERATA Salzburg focuses on Franz Schubert's artistic exchange with his role model Ludwig van Beethoven. Under the direction of Gregory Ahss and featuring tenor Julian Prégardien, the ensemble explores the 'Cosmos Schubert' and presents five songs from the cycle 'Schwanengesang.' These are based on poems by Ludwig Rellstab, which originally belonged to Beethoven and were passed on to Schubert after his death. The songs will be performed in a special orchestral arrangement created by Detlev Glanert.

A highlight is Schubert's setting of Rellstab's poem 'Auf dem Strome,' which Prégardien will perform with the original accompaniment for horn (Johannes Hinterholzer) and piano. The program also includes Beethoven's dramatic 'Coriolan' Overture, the final movement from Schubert's Fourth Symphony, and Beethoven's lyrical Fourth Piano Concerto, performed by pianist Kristian Bezuidenhout with the CAMERATA. The concert combines the works of both composers into a fascinating musical dialogue.
