Description

At the Salzburger HirtenAdvent 2026, the traditional shepherd's play by Tobi Reiser takes center stage, celebrating its 20th anniversary in the Great Hall of the University of Salzburg. The story unfolds on a winter's night: shepherds from the Salzburg regions gather in search of the stable and consider how they can pay their respects to the newborn Messiah with traditional songs. After joint rehearsals, they choose the "Schleunige."

The piece is given special significance through its connection to Sepp Radauer, who made his debut in 1969 as a child in the role of "Lippei from Lungau." Now as the "Elder Shepherd," he guides young performers and the audience through the Advent narrative. The entertaining framing story shows how children ask him to let them participate in the play—and he takes them on a musical journey to the manger.
