A festival in honor of Stefan Zweig featuring theater, lectures, and discussions. Discover the life and work of the famous writer in Salzburg!
Description
The "Salzburg Stefan Zweig Days" offer a multifaceted exploration of the life and work of the writer Stefan Zweig. At the heart of the program are six events that honor his literary legacy on stage, in academia, and in public discourse.
The festival kicks off with the premiere of "Schachnovelle" at the Salzburg State Theatre – a story about intellectual resilience and isolation. From November 25 to 27, the international conference "Stefan Zweig and the Letter" focuses on his work, curated by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Werner Michler and Dr. Martina Wörgötter. Experts will analyze the reception and significance of Zweig, who was one of the first to advocate for the European idea.
A special event at the State Theatre will discuss the future of public engagement with Zweig’s legacy, particularly the question of a house for the author in Salzburg. Starting November 27, the theatrical search for traces "Declaração: Ich habe das Leben zu sehr geliebt" ("Declaration: I have loved life too much") will be shown in the Kammerspiele, featuring private letters that paint an intimate portrait of the artist – including his commitment to a united Europe during a time of national division.
