Description

To conclude the 50th anniversary of the Mozarteum Foundation, Handel’s oratorio "Messiah" will be performed in a festive concert. Under the direction of Ivor Bolton, the Collegium Vocale Salzburg and the L’Orfeo Baroque Orchestra will be joined by an outstanding ensemble of soloists: Lydia Teuscher (soprano), Melissa Zigouridi (mezzo-soprano), Virgil Hartinger (tenor), and Daniel Okulitch (bass). The work unites Baroque affects in a unique synthesis of overwhelming drama, timeless beauty, and deeply felt humanity—evident in the expressive choral passages and moving arias.

The Salzburg Bach Society set a benchmark in 1991 with a performance on historical instruments, significantly shaping the early music movement in Salzburg. This tradition is now being continued, honoring Handel’s compositional mastery, which has lost none of its radiance to this day.
