Description

The Mozarteum Chamber Choir presents a concert titled "ORIENS – On the Rising of Light," featuring works by composers such as Olivier Messiaen, Cecilia McDowall, Jonathan Dove, James MacMillan, Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson, Edvard Grieg, Max Bruch, Francis Poulenc, and Sally Beamish. The program explores the theme of light and expectation, inspired by the symbolism of the morning star and epiphany.

At its heart is the O Antiphon "O Oriens," which echoes the call for eternal light. Ancient Advent chants engage in dialogue with contemporary soundscapes, where Nordic clarity—evident in works by Sigurbjörnsson and Grieg—meets French colorfulness. Romantic intimacy blends with the expressive power of modern choral music. The choir is accompanied by Michael Greifeneder on the organ, under the direction of Christiane Büttig.

The concert creates a space for meditative sounds and radiant choral moments, making the quiet transition from waiting to the appearance of light tangible.
