Description

Under the motto Radical Strings, the Beija-Flor String Quartet dedicates itself to two masterpieces of the Viennese Classical period that made history through their compositional radicalism. Mozart’s String Quartet in E-flat major, K. 428 (1783), breaks with harmonic conventions: unusual modulations and dissonant turns fueled contemporary critics’ accusations that the work was "too liberally seasoned." Beethoven’s String Quartet in B-flat major, Op. 130 (1825), culminates in the Grosse Fuge, whose complex polyphony so outraged audiences at its premiere that Beethoven composed a new, more conciliatory finale.

The internationally composed ensemble—Haruna Shinoyama and Tobias Aan (violins), Samuel Poblete (viola), and Ema Krečič (cello)—performs these works with technical brilliance and interpretive depth. An evening that explores the boundaries of classical string quartet tradition.
