Description

Giacomo Puccini’s "Tosca" is a gripping operatic thriller about passion, power, and betrayal. At its heart are the singer Floria Tosca, her lover, the painter Mario Cavaradossi, and the ruthless police chief Scarpia. When Cavaradossi aids a political fugitive, he becomes the target of Scarpia, who forces Tosca into a desperate situation. The opera captivates with its dramatic music and psychological depth, ruthlessly probing the abyss of human nature.

This semi-staged performance at the Großes Festspielhaus combines Puccini’s masterpiece with the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg under the direction of Carlo Benedetto Cimento. The staging is designed by Thomas Mika, while Thomas Wizany accompanies the action visually with live drawings. The lead roles are performed by Ekaterina Sannikova (Tosca), Andeka Gorrotxategi (Cavaradossi), and Kartal Karagedik (Scarpia). The opera is sung in Italian with German and English surtitles and is considered a highlight of Verismo, which places real-life conflicts and emotions at the forefront.
