Description

In the Knights' Hall of the Salzburg Residence, works for traverso flute, cello, and fortepiano by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Luigi Gatti, Franz Joseph Haydn, and Carl Maria von Weber will be performed. Flutist Marcello Gatti, accompanied by Agnieszka Oszanca on cello and Katarzyna Drogosz on fortepiano, will explore compositions closely tied to Salzburg's musical tradition.

During the Romantic era, the traverso flute evolved from a virtuosic solo instrument of the Classical period into a voice of lyrical intensity. Carl Maria von Weber, who studied in Salzburg as a young man under Michael Haydn, played a key role in shaping this new sound. The evening is inspired by a poem by Friederike Susan, which celebrates the flute's poetic power: "O flute, the heavenly language!" – a motto that captures Weber's connection to Salzburg and the magical effect of music.

In cooperation with DomQuartier Salzburg.
