Description

Under the direction of the internationally celebrated conductor Christian Thielemann, the Vienna Philharmonic performs Ludwig van Beethoven’s monumental 9th Symphony in D minor, Op. 125. Premiered in Vienna in 1824, the work is considered a milestone in music history, blending orchestral brilliance with the visionary power of Schiller’s ode "Ode to Joy" in the final movement. A world-class vocal ensemble – Camilla Nylund (soprano), Patricia Nylz (alto), Klaus Florian Vogt (tenor), and Georg Zeppenfeld (bass) – is accompanied by the Vienna Singverein under the direction of Johannes Prinz.

The symphony, a highlight of the commemorative year marking the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s death, stands for the universal message of unity and humanity. With the famous quote "All men shall become brothers," it resonates as a powerful plea for shared values – especially in times of global tensions. The Vienna Philharmonic continues a tradition that has moved audiences worldwide for nearly two centuries.
