Description

The third seasonal concert of the CAMERATA Salzburg is dedicated to works by female composers whose contributions have long been overlooked in the male-dominated history of music. Fanny Hensel’s Overture in C major, premiered in 1834 with electrifying impact, and Emilie Mayer’s lyrical Symphony No. 2 in E minor showcase the romantic expressive power of two pioneering women. Mayer left behind an impressive body of work, including eight symphonies and 15 concert overtures.

The program combines these discoveries with Frédéric Chopin’s sensitive Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11, performed by Chopin Prize winner Yulianna Avdeeva. The musical direction is led by Afanasy Chupin, concertmaster of the CAMERATA. The works share a poetic romanticism—a evening that presents forgotten masterpieces and familiar sounds in a new light.
