Description

To ring in the New Year, the CAMERATA Salzburg, under the musical direction of Afanasy Chupin (violin) and moderated by Josef Radauer, invites you to a concert that musically traces the course of the sun from dawn to midnight. Haydn’s 'Times of Day' symphonies open with cheerful morning sounds, followed by Rameau’s 'Air pour l'adoration du soleil,' which captures the veneration of the celestial body in Baroque splendor. Elgar’s 'Sun Dance' expresses childlike playfulness, while Humperdinck’s 'Elegy at Sunset' lets the evening glow in gentle light. Mendelssohn’s Scherzo from the 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream' music evokes the magical atmosphere of the witching hour, before Johann Strauss’ waltzes and polkas—including 'Aurora Ball Dances' and 'Lucifer Polka'—conclude the New Year’s transition with lively elegance. An introduction 30 minutes before the concert begins delves deeper into the musical connections.
