Description

Under the direction of Afanasy Chupin and moderated by Josef Radauer, the CAMERATA Salzburg presents a festive New Year's Eve concert that musically honors the sun in all its facets. The program takes the audience through Haydn’s 'Times of Day' symphonies, in which morning, noon, and evening resound, and revives the magical sounds of an Incan sun festival with Rameau’s 'Air pour l'adoration du soleil.' Elgar’s 'Sun Dance' and Humperdinck’s 'Elegy at Sunset' paint the course of the day in vibrant tones, while Mendelssohn’s Scherzo from 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream' evokes the midnight sun. To ring in the new year, Johann Strauss’ waltzes and polkas conclude the concert with lively rhythms. An evening that welcomes the new year with radiant melodies and poetic soundscapes.
