Description

The Großes Festspielhaus welcomes the audience to a varied orchestral concert featuring works by Brahms, Haydn, Grieg, and Beethoven. The Basel Symphony Orchestra, conducted by the renowned maestro Markus Poschner, presents Beethoven’s iconic "Symphony No. 5," a masterpiece that shaped classical music with its emotional depth and revolutionary ideas. The symphony, an expression of Beethoven’s enthusiasm for the ideals of the French Revolution, forms the highlight of the evening.

The concert opens with Brahms’ "Tragic Overture," a powerful and somber orchestral work that sets the tone for the evening. A special highlight is Joseph Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto in E-flat major, performed by the internationally celebrated trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth. Haydn’s piece, considered the first concerto for a keyed instrument, is presented here in a masterful interpretation. The program concludes with Edvard Grieg’s "Two Nordic Melodies," enchanting the audience with Nordic tunes and lyrical beauty.

For those interested, an introductory lecture will take place in the Fördererlounge at 18:20 before the concert.
