The Basel Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Markus Poschner, presents a concert featuring works by Brahms, Haydn, Grieg, and Beethoven. The evening opens with Brahms' "Tragic Overture," a dark and dramatic orchestral piece. Next is Joseph Haydn's Trumpet Concerto in E-flat major, the first piece written for a keyed instrument, performed by the internationally acclaimed trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth. Edvard Grieg's "Two Nordic Melodies" transports listeners to another world with its Nordic sounds.

The highlight of the evening is Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 in C minor, the "Fate Symphony." As the "Year Regent" and finale of the cycle, it embodies Beethoven's revolutionary spirit and his ability to blend classical forms with emotional depth.
